Walk & Talk
Therapy
Therapy on foot, on ferries that cross between continents, and through Istanbul's oldest neighbourhoods. The conversation goes deeper when you're moving.

Four Walls
Walk and Talk Therapy is exactly what it sounds like. Instead of sitting across from each other in an office, we walk side by side along the Bosphorus, through Istanbul's backstreets, and on the ferries that shuttle between Europe and Asia.
There's real science behind it. Movement activates the brain in ways that sitting can't. Bilateral stimulation (the left-right rhythm of walking) helps process difficult emotions. Reduced eye contact lowers self-consciousness. And a changing backdrop gives your mind something to work with.
For some people, the therapy room is where they open up. For others, it's the last place they would. This is for the second group.
Walking is man's best medicine.— Hippocrates
Movement Changes
the Conversation
The research is clear: walking during therapy isn't a gimmick. It changes what happens in the session.
Bilateral Stimulation
The left-right pattern of walking activates both brain hemispheres, similar to EMDR. It helps process memories and emotions that stay stuck when you're sitting still.
Less Pressure
No clipboard. No couch. Walking side by side removes the face-to-face intensity that makes some people clam up. Conversation flows at its own pace.
Istanbul as Backdrop
Byzantium, Constantinople, Istanbul. Orthodox churches converted to mosques. The call to prayer over the Bosphorus. Two thousand years of reinvention. You walk through a city that has survived everything, and that context becomes part of your own story. You notice things about yourself on foot that you'd miss in a room.
You Might Be a
Good Fit If...
Walk and Talk isn't for everyone. But for the right person, it's the thing that finally makes therapy click.
You've tried traditional therapy and found yourself staring at the clock, giving polished answers, or going through the motions
You're an expat or digital nomad in Istanbul dealing with the disorientation of building a life somewhere new
Sitting still makes you restless. You think better when you move. Offices feel clinical. You want something that meets you where you are
You're visiting Istanbul and want to use your time here for something more than sightseeing. A one-off intensive while you're in the city
You're already a client of mine and you're passing through Istanbul. A walking session adds a new dimension to work we've been doing online
You want to come as a couple. Walk and Talk works for two people as well as one. Side-by-side movement changes the dynamic between partners
You want to bring a small group. Friends, colleagues, or a retreat group. Group sessions (3+ people) follow the same format at a lower per-person rate
The Other Tour
Before becoming a therapist, I spent years as a tour guide in Istanbul, mentored by my good friend andThe Other Tour's founder, Fethi. That training shaped how I see this city and how I move through it with people.
Where most tours show you the postcard version, The Other Tour goes into the real city: backstreet workshops, neighbourhood tea gardens, places that don't appear on Google Maps. That same philosophy shapes our walking therapy routes.
I can lead a full multi-hour tour of Istanbul on my own. But Walk and Talk isn't a tour with therapy bolted on. It's therapy first, with the city woven in wherever it serves you.

We Meet at a Starting Point
Sessions begin at a designated meeting spot in one of Istanbul's walkable neighbourhoods. Kadikoy, Moda, Balat, or along the Bosphorus are the usual starting points. You'll get the exact location when you book.
We Walk, We Talk, We Ride Ferries
Sessions are a minimum of 3 hours. We walk along the Bosphorus, through historic neighbourhoods, and sometimes board a ferry between continents. The pace is gentle. The route adapts to the conversation.
Your Goals Come First
Before we start (or at the beginning of the session), we'll get clear on what you're working through and what you want from this. I'll weave Istanbul's history and culture into the conversation where it's relevant and useful to your situation. The city becomes a mirror, not a distraction.
Practical Details
Wear comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather. Sessions run rain or shine unless conditions are unsafe. Istanbul's light rain can make for good sessions. Routes are chosen for privacy, and confidentiality is maintained throughout.

Trevor Brown
Licensed therapist based in Istanbul, working with expats, digital nomads, and intercultural couples. Also a trained tour guide with years of experience leading people through this city on foot. Direct, no-nonsense, and interested in what's really going on.
Walk and Talk Therapy grew out of both careers colliding. The streets here surface things that a quiet office can't. The history and culture of this city give me raw material to work with in ways that four walls never could.
Frequently Asked
Research supports it. Studies show walking therapy produces outcomes comparable to seated therapy, with added benefits in engagement and mood regulation. For people who struggle with traditional settings, it can be more effective because they show up more honestly.
Routes are chosen for privacy: quieter streets, waterside paths, parks with space. Istanbul is a loud city; conversations blend into the background noise. If a session touches something sensitive, we pause or shift to a more secluded spot.
Light rain? We walk. Some of the best sessions happen in the rain, with fewer people around and the city sounding different. Heavy downpour or unsafe weather? We reschedule or move to a nearby indoor option. You won't be stranded.
If you can walk at a comfortable pace for an hour, you're fine. This is a stroll, not exercise. We go at whatever speed the conversation needs and stop when we need to. Some of the best moments happen standing still, looking at the Bosphorus.
Yes. Many people book a single session while they're passing through. If you're already a client of mine from online therapy, this is a chance to do our work in a new setting. If you're new, a one-off session can still go deep.
As much as you want. I was a tour guide here before becoming a therapist, and I can lead a full multi-hour tour of this city. But Walk and Talk is built around you. Before we start, we'll get clear on your challenges and goals. Then I weave Istanbul's history, culture, and layers into the conversation where they're relevant to your situation. The city becomes a resource for your own reflection, not a lecture.
Therapy first. The setting and the city are tools, not the point. You'll see and experience incredible parts of Istanbul, but the session is structured around your personal work. Think of it as therapy that happens to take place in one of the most layered cities on earth.
